Entering July, Juan Anderson wasn’t a household name among recruitniks and college coaches. Now the 6-foot-6 wing prospect will play college ball in the Big East conference.
Anderson picked Marquette on Wednesday, after considering Arizona State and California.
“Coach Benford was the coach recruiting me and he put in a lot of work,” Anderson told Scout.com. “I just felt really comfortable with him and the whole coaching staff, not to mention that Marquette is a really good academic school.”
“Plus I’ll get a chance to play in the best league in the nation, so I’m excited about the opportunity,” Anderson added.
Anderson, a standout at Castro Valley (Calif.) High, took a trip to Marquette two weeks ago and the visit helped seal his commitment.
“It was actually really amazing,” Anderson said. “They work hard. They are a hard working team and that’s the type of player I am. I like to work hard. I think I’ll fit in perfectly with them.
“The players are really cool and they treated me like family and the coaches made me feel comfortable along with my mother,” he said. “It was a family decision.”
Anderson, a three-star prospect, is Buzz Williams first verbal pledge in the 2011 class. He averaged 14 points and seven rebounds during his junior season.
