Big Ten Program Scores Thompson

Sam Thompson hinted at a decision in the near future. Sunday was the day he opted to do it. A four-star prospect is off the board.

Sam Thompson had his list down to two schools -- Ohio State and Florida. He had already visited both programs. So the past few days he shut things down to think about his decision.

On Sunday the 6-foot-7 versatile wing made a verbal commitment to Thad Matta and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

"I really loved the campus," Thompson told Scout.com. "I really love Ohio State and the school. I really felt comfortable with the coaching staff. They have had great success with wings at Ohio State over the past few years."

Thompson, a standout at Chicago (Ill.) Whitney Young, has a goal of winning a college championship and he believes that with OSU's current roster and their incoming players that it's a feasible task.

"Coach Matta really does a good job coaching," Thompson said. "They are a program thats really trying to win a national championship and that's somehtign I want to be apart of."

"I sat down with coach Matta and I got a chance to watch the team play," he said. "He told me what he saw from me and I'm really excited about this."

Thompson, a high level athlete, joins a pair of top 100 prospects in Shannon Scott and LaQuinton Ross. Thompson checks in at No. 47 overall in Scout.com's 2011 rankings.
